Teams of all skill levels will compete for cash and prizes at the Metro Softball Club in this annual social softball tournament for lesbians, women and friends.
Back in 1998, two groups of New Zealand lesbian softballers, Auckland’s Maidenz and Wellington’s Amazons, joined forces to take a team to the Gay Games in Amsterdam – narrowly missing out on a bronze medal by one run.
Close bonds were forged between the two teams and they created the annual Labrys Women’s Softball Tournament to celebrate New Zealand lesbians and lesbian softballers.
Sporting prowess is not a must in this competition, with players of all abilities and sporting code backgrounds joining to have a laugh, some drinks, and a great day out on the field with friends.
The competition runs from 10am to 5pm, with teams guaranteed at least three games, and is followed by prize giving in the bar.
Whether you’re registering as a team, or as an individual who would like to be placed with a team, come along and have a go!
