Mika Haka Foundation presents a diversity-themed, dual-cinema film festival for Aroha ’17 and Auckland Pride, hosted by Jay Tewake and YouTube sensation Kris Fox.
From submissions of human rights and diversity based short films from New Zealand and around the globe, rangatahi Māori and mentors have selected 20 short films from six countries for this year’s line-up.
The two-cinema, two-part short film programme includes the world premiere of In The Morning, starring Keisha Castle-Hughes; a Fever Dreams programme, incorporating innovation in sci-fi, animation and native activism; and a Hero programme, exploring fresh ideas around queer gender and diversity.
The main features are psychological thriller The Unbidden (2016, USA), a film by Quentin Lee, featuring music from Mika, Siche Zhang and Alan Jansson; and the Aroha ’17 awards finalists.
Join us for a red carpet experience with celebrities, half-time performances by Empress and King Home Boy, and pop-up exhibits from Mana Mannequins.
