I am a queer feminist cisgender Pākehā woman that likes gardening.
What issues are most important to you?
It is hard to pick one once you realise they are all interconnected. There are a lot of people in Aotearoa that deserve equity and don’t get it.
Are you associated with any change organisations?
I run a website called levelplayingfield.org.nz that aims to challenge homophobia in sport. I am the Co-Chairperson of Rainbow Youth, working to support queer and gender diverse young people. I am also an educator with Rape Prevention Education, where we go into high schools to teach young people about consent and healthy relationships.
In 2017, what change would you most like to see?
I want every young person to come out of the schooling system knowing that their gender identity, sex, or sexuality is valid and awesome, and I want their peers to know that, too.
What achievement are you most proud of?
My Masters research, which started the Level Playing Field website. It was really inspiring hearing the stories of all of my generous participants and being able to use those stories to help others.
Who inspires you?
Serena Williams. She faces so much racism in her sport, but she just takes it all in her stride and beats everyone at everything.
Name your favourite queer anthem or protest song.
