A dance double-bill on the closing night of Aroha ‘17, premiering contemporary works by rising Māori choreographers and performers – Intuition by Eddie Elliott, and Mendes by Kasina Campbell.
Intuition is “an attempt at sense (a word I keep referring to around improvisation),” says Eddie Elliott. “Perhaps the first obvious tool inside a creative exploration – but is there a pattern to our intuition? Intuition invokes something instinctive, there is speed and desire to understand.”
Mendes “interprets myself discovering a new part of my genealogy, channeling the love that has created me,” says Kasina Campbell. “A journey through my whakapapa to present day, aspiring to clutch the hands of my foregone ancestors.”
