Once upon a time there was no Internet, no smartphones and no Grindr! LGBTIQ people had to come together in social spaces like bars, clubs, parties and cruising joints. With the advent of technology and the Internet, we can now meet and connect without having to leave home. But has this newfound freedom had a positive or negative impact? Many people suggest there is now a lack of community, and bars and clubs around the world are closing their doors.
Presented in association with GayNZ.com, this panel discussion explores the effect of technology on the way we interact as individuals and as a community. We put this to our esteemed panelists, Anne Speir, Michael Stevens, Sarah Lambourne, Joe Rich, Jacquie Grant and MC Steven Oates.
Come early and order from Ika’s superb dinner menu. Bar and food available from 5.30pm. Entry by koha on the night – but capacity is limited, so bookings are essential.
